La raíz de otra especie del mismo género,
Scute-
llaria baicalensis
, conocida como “Chinese skullcap”
originaria de China y Rusia, es utilizada en la medi-
cina tradicional China por sus propiedades analgé-
sicas, antiinflamatorias, antialérgicas, antifúngicas,
antivirales, antioxidantes, antitumorales, etc. Ensayos
en cultivos celulares han demostrado también su ac-
tividad neuroprotectora y asimismo ensayos en ani-
males de experimentación indican para esta planta
propiedades hipoglucemiantes, hipotensoras y ansio-
líticas. De sus raíces se han aislado cuatro flavonas
que han mostrado en un ensayo
in vitro
afinidad,
en mayor o menor grado, por el receptor GABAA en
sinaptosomas de ratón. Estas flavonas se han aislado
también en
S. lateriflora
.
